Grand Tremor

Island nation shakes and crumbles. Some say why, and lie. Some wonder what or how. Some blame God; some see God. Some just go. Mercy me! Yes, mercy ME.

Snohomish OBE

Sometimes useful acronyms emerge - OBE in military-speak is overcome by events. Wednesday supposed to fly to FL, but my overcoming event was too much travel. Friday supposed to drive to Memphis, but they called it off, due to ice and snow. I like being OBE, because I am stuck home in white ice – Snohomish I think.

Philly Unlikely

She calls to say it’s time to marry him after 10 years - my dad heart leaps. Making plans now for a summer Philly union. My advice - please talk to this recommended reverend near you, who offers good stuff. What’s this e-mail; come to a conference 5 miles from her, the reverend, and church? 1500 miles away - no accident here! Not a chance in a million.

Leaders becoming

Another conference about what’s wrong. Why can’t we fulfill our destiny? Start here: the problem is “out there”. Wait now, isn’t it always first about something “in here”? I discover trouble getting past the heart condition of those who want to lead others. It starts with me, even before it is us, let alone them.

Rocky rocks

Seattle bound in summer. Big - big guys with big plans, big houses, big wallets, and big love for others. Build a city - Zoe for life. Unleash digital power for good and God. I thought it died; no just dormant. Chapter next, right now…

George

He is a listening antenna for the Creator. He draws the unknowable out from within others. When it emerges, healing commences. Second sight enables him to cut straight to the core of the wound. Surgery happens; a scalpel in the hands of the Master.

The Old Girl

Parked the car to get lunch. Who is the jerk blaring on the horn??? Whoops - it's my old deaf dog in the driver's seat! Best of all, two women watched, wheezing with laughter. They waited for my return, hoping for an encore.

Buck Nekked

Come be our guest at the hotel spa. Leave your clothes here - yes all of them. Gathered hundreds of natural Korean men, and then there’s me. You have a special treat (oh no) for me??? Sanded raw, scrubbed squeaky, chopped, pounded, oiled, and tenderized. Nothing missed; nothing private. Beat like a drum for the crescendo. It was amazing…

North to South

Nineteen-fifty Korea – the farmer family slips to the secret ship escaping tyranny. Six children onboard, then the ship leaves abruptly. Mother, father and baby cry as they watch ship leave. She tells him “You go now - take care of them!” He swims the icy water and is pulled aboard. They never reunite; father never remarries. Sixty years later, brother wonders if baby sister still lives.

Stop Hunger Now

Twenty five thousand will die today of nutritional poverty. One dollar buys four life-saving meals. One million blessed commit one dollar daily through sustained sacrificial giving? Imagine ending starvation for many of the world’s poorest. Imagine massive food banks staged and readied for global disaster relief. Don’t only imagine.

Nashville, Atlanta, Seoul, Ulsan, then Gyeongju City. The hosts wear dark suits, Asian men full of faith and soul. Bring us a message, we are listening. Whose plan is this – mine or God’s?

Plan A and B

Plan A; twenty-four hours and three flights to get there. Missed the first flight, so I miss them all! Plan B takes forty hours, and I know what happened. I wonder what didn’t happen in plan A?

Going therefore

Five airports, forty hours, ten thousand miles, and now without luggage! Men and cultures meet to conspire against human suffering. Why does a western Caucasian desire quiet meditation? Why do his Asian friends get it?

Connor

The boy dove in with the others, except he hit bottom. His head lives, near to a deaf body. Oh, the parental pain of it all - take me instead of my son. Dad tells God “it hurts.” God says “I know.” Dad says “my son has lost his life!” God says “I know that feeling as well.” He says “it hurts.” God says “I know, come here to me.”

New from the Edge

Lost in the deep jungle. See the clearing, near the cliff edge. My security in obscurity; my rescue in exposure. Come out now..., yes you, to the edge of life. See the jungle from the clearing now. Dare to expose for rescue.

Tazered

The neighbor knocked - wonder why? We started to become friends. He's a concert equipment roadie. Late for a gig, the cops found him in a rage. One; two; three zaps - dead. She asked me to give his eulogy at the sound studio. Pony tail guys wept; so did I; so did God.

He asked for $12.35, and for my address to pay me back. A good enough story, indeed! I could a) drive away, b) give with concern, or 3) give it freely. I did.

Wrong or Important?

Makes my blood boil – what’s wrong is everywhere! Let me count the ways… I am in Wrongville trouble, because my focus is my center. Now I strain to see what’s wrong through the prism of what’s important. There now…yes. Much better.
