Three times in one week – pay attention! I missed last Sunday’s sermon, so my pastor printed it out for me and handed it to me. It’s the same message for the third time this week. The story is found in Luke 8:26-39: snakes and eagles at war.

Redemption
Today I claimed some property at a pawn shop (long story) for the first time. These are not pleasant places, as they traffic in human misery. The word on top of the receipt hit me hard; REDEMPTION! What happens at this pawn counter is counterfeit redemption.

The Old Dog
She is seventeen now, and moving slowly. Our job is keeping her comfortable. It’s an honor to do it, considering all the comfort she has given to us. She still pees and poops to piss us off. We live in a dysfunctional world, family and dog-house-hold.
Heaven help us now
Why would we adopt such a mutt?
And why would God us…

Full Circle
Nearly three years ago, I met Aaron, and was introduced to Stan, who introduced me to Rocky and Colin. Today Stan Rocky and I will meet, connect, recap and project. Life is more than a journey; it is an ascending spiral helix. When you go around each orbit, you have risen to see more.
So what is the plan?

Where are my glasses?

Water is calm under heat, until 212 F. It seems that the spiritual temperature around me is about 210. This thing is going to boil soon. A viral energy explosion looms near in the spiritual realm. The power of many persons connecting with true clarity of God’s story hidden within their lives will light up humanity.

Christ does not ask us to be like him; he says “follow me”. There is infinite distance between knowing about Jesus, and knowing him. The crisis of Christianity is exactly there.

Deliverance
…Deliver us from evil. The most prayed prayer contains it, but we have memorized it so we blow right through it. I would like to think I can just avoid evil, but the truth is that I must be delivered from it. Two worlds compete for us; dark deceives while light attracts. My guard down, I read today’s devotional in Luke 8:26-39 to inhale the reality of the stench of evil, and power of freedom DELIVERED.

Jesus says “if you love me, feed my sheep.” Well there it is. I joined 250 others to do that. In 90 minutes we packaged 45,300 dehydrated meals for 25 cents each - …a good start toward 200,000 meals today. www.stophungernow.org

My friend Jim took grandson Luke fishing. Big catfish on! … and another and many more. The boy caught his weight in fish and told Poppy “this is the best day of my life.” And so it was for both of them.

Setting Captives Free
Spiritual war is about freedom versus bondage. The stakes are high; the heat intense. You cannot fight in this battle unless you have been wounded and healed. Released captives make the best freedom fighters. It is hard to know you were in captivity until you get free, and see the cage.
No strength except faith

Avatar Ascension
To what degree can we “make believe”, pray tell? Consider carefully the idea of “make believe”. And what is it about “pray tell” that causes me to want to linger there for a while. How much of what is yet to happen is yet to be imagined? I guess the only way each of us will know is to try it, risk, and believe it can.

Faith free living isn’t. It’s dead.

Troubled kids
We have saved some money each month for them for years, and we decided it was time to give it to them. One was thankless, and the other lied. Instead of sending the money, we sent truthful notes of concern. Both have since responded, so we sent the money.

George and I are both Vietnam-era bomber pilots; Air Force and Navy. We share experiences and faith, but we are wired differently. He called me from Yellowstone in awe of nature’s splendor – and the Architect. Observing the geysers and bubbling pots, he declared it to be “where inside meets outside”. Profound!

Newly single after a few months of marriage. This book ended on chapter one. Storybook romance can deceive. Prince Charming brought a load of pain that prevented the union that God intended. Good friends and a great God are the Rx. Friendships thwarted; God waits for the brokenness to do its work.

Africa bound
It would seem unlikely to meet men headed to the same area for the same purpose in the same time window; especially when it is ten thousand miles away. I see it as God working up a plan for us. The spiritual purposes of our trips will converge somehow - I know it!

Panhandle friends
Party at the swamp! Low country boil with lots of shrimp and mud bugs and suds. Chef Bill cooks and writes oyster love poems. Andy flies low, quiet and leaves a boom. John&Ruth host; Juddy visits; Ken fishes. Coach invests in young lives and makes tracks to Tanzania. Ken Phil & Courtney are a UMM AAA team. Reggie plus son and one sauntered into Hunts Oyster Bar one day hungry. They polished off 15 dozen… EACH! Commander Jessica, please annex Hunts and name it O’ Mess Hall.
